About the Scholarship : 

Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies (JISP) is a two year program intended to help Japanese nationals get a Ph.D degree in macroeconomics and preparing them to work as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The scholarship is funded by the Japanese government and administered by the IMF’s Development Capabilities (ICD) with assistance from the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Up to seven scholarships are awarded annually on a competitive basis to students by the record of high academic achievement. All scholars are required JISP applied to the economist of the IMF’s (EP) on completion of their doctoral studies and received a position if offered . Scholars who do not comply with this state will be asked to repay the cost of the scholarship.

Please note that the Fund will not be able to accommodate all Jisp scholars who apply for work in the Fund since there are so many applicants for each position available and the selection process is very competitive.

Eligibility :
Be eligible, an applicant must be:

  • A Japanese citizen.
  • Can ask age 34.
  • Lectures in, or applying to, a Ph.D program in macroeconomics at a university outside Japan. Only by university doctoral program in strong macroeconomics is feasible.
  • Entering the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of the PhD program.

Applications Requirement:
This must be completed in English and include the following:

  • A personal statement focused on the applicant’s background, career goals, and interests can be used as an economist of the IMF;
  • A complete transcript of the university to study prior to the applicant’s and, if you have a graduate student, now a university transcript;
  • GRE and TOEFL or IELTS scores;
  • A copy of the application to a PhD program; and
  • Two letters of reference.

Scholarships are awarded in the spring, when the study began in the fall of the same year. Candidates should apply directly to the university for admission.

Please note that no exception could be made about the national graduate we, the location of the university, or the field of study.

Advantage Of The Scholarship :

The JISP covers all expenses common to two years of graduate study, including:

  • Full university tuition and fees;
  • Medical insurance;
  • The annual book allowance and a monthly living allowance;
  • Travel expenses selected; and
  • Paid summer internships.
    To cover the remainder of the study, scholars Jisp expected to secure other sources of funding, usually through Research or Teaching Assistant at the university of their ship.
